Exynos is the name of the chipset developed directly by Samsung. This chipset is an ARM-based chipset and is the chipset that is widely used by mobile phones manufactured by Samsung.
Exynos is widely used in Samsung phones. However, several other vendors also use the Exynos chipset. An example is vivo. The type of vivo that uses the Exynos chipset is the vivo X30 and the vivo X30 Pro.
Exynos itself was present in 2010 with its first product, the Exynos 3. This chipset was first used in the first generation of Samsung Galaxy S devices. In 2011, there was the Exynos 4210 which was used in the Samsung Galaxy SII. After that, Samsung presented another Exynos chipset.

- ARMv8 Exynos
In the last quarter of 2014, Samsung began to abandon the ARMv7 instruction set and switch to the ARMv8 instruction set. With this new instruction set, Samsung chipsets are now more attractive and can compete with Snapdragon chipsets or from other chipset manufacturers.
This ARMv8-based Exynos chipset can be categorized into two categories. The two categories are as follows
ARMv8 Exynos Mid-Range and Entry-Level
The first category is the ARMv8-based Exynos aimed at the mid-range and entry-level classes. Simply put, this chipset is made for smartphones in the affordable price class and the middle price class.
Exynos chipsets in this category include the Exynos 7500 series, 7870 and 7880 which were made from 2015 to 2017. These chipsets are made with 28 nm and 14 nm fabrication. There are also Exynos 7872, 7884 series, 7885 and 7904. These chipsets are made in the 2018 to 2019 range. These chipsets are made with 14 nm fabrication.
Other chipsets are the Exynos 9600 series which came out in 2019 and the Exynos 800 series which came out in 2020. The Exynos 9600 is made with a 10 nm fabrication process while the Exynos 800 series is made with an 8 nm fabrication process.
ARMv8 Exynos High-End
The second category is the ARMv8-based Exynos aimed at the high-end. This chipset is generally used for high-end Samsung phones. Examples are the Samsung Galaxy S Series and the Note Series.
This series starts with the Exynos 5433 which is built with 2o nm fabrication. This chipset was present in 2014. Next, comes the Exynos 7420 which is built with 20 nm fabrication. This chipset was present in 2015.
From 2016 to 2017, Exynos presented the Exynos 8800 series. The first series is the Exynos 8 Octa 8890 which was present in 2016. This chipset is built with 14 nm fabrication. Next there is the Exynos 8895 which is built with 10 nm fabrication. This chipset is present in 2017.
In 2018, there was the Exynos 9810 which was built with 1o nm fabrication. A year later, comes the Exynos 9820 which is built with 8 nm fabrication. In the same year, there was the Exynos 9825 which came with 7 nm fabrication.
The 8 nm fabrication process produces a chipset called the Exynos 980. This chipset is used in other mobile phone brands. For example, the vivo S6 5G. Because this chipset already supports 5G networks.
While the 7 nm fabrication presents the Exynos 990 chipset. This chipset is Samsung’s high-end chipset and is used in the Samsung Galaxy S20 series and Samsung Galaxy Note20 series. The Exynos 990 and Exynos 980 are both coming in 2020.
Furthermore, there is a chipset with 5 nm fabrication, namely the Exynos 2100. This chipset offers better and more stable performance when compared to the Exynos 990.
